“Dance is my passion.” – Since discovering her love of belly dance, Alyssa has been passionately studying all aspects and forms of the art with an emphasis on technique. In class, students can look forward to a variety of ways to execute each movement with an awareness of the mechanics which drive them. Alyssa also stresses the importance of musicality and the learned skill of playing finger cymbals, a time honored tradition in the art form as well as a unique characteristic of belly dance. Her classes are fun yet challenging as students discover the allure of both dancing and accompanying a variety of different musical rhythms and genres. Along with technique and musicality, there is also an emotional experimentation that is present in her classes. Alyssa enjoys exploring different methods of expression by fusing multiple western dance genres such as ballet, jazz, modern, and many more with belly dance.
Alyssa began teaching dance in 2010 at The Dance Within where she developed her unique and personal style of teaching the dance to all levels of students and continues to teach in Kitsap County. She currently holds certifications in both Salimpour formats, SSBD Level 2 and JSBD Level 1. When she is not performing as a solo artist, Alyssa also works in multiple dance companies; she is the director of the ModRom Dance Collective, a previous member of both Forge Dance Theatre and Bal Anat, current member of Qabila Folkdance Company, and is one half of the Kitsap based duo Belly Dance Dreams.
Alyssa has studied extensively with her mentor Kitiera of Seattle as well as Suhaila Salimpour.
