A few common Q&A’s:
“Do I need any kind of dance experience to take class?”
Belly Dance Basics is a class designed for those who have had little to no dance training, including belly dance. In class you will learn proper body alignment as well as foot and arm positions, no ballet class necessary.
“I have some physical limitations, can I still take the class?”
Yes. If you have any physical limitations or health concerns that may require modifications to the movements, please let Alyssa know and she can help you adjust the steps to keep you safe.
“Who can take classes?”
Alyssa does not discriminate against students. She welcomes all ages, shapes, sizes, genders, physical limitations, sexual orientations, fitness/dance levels, etc. Above all, her goal is to create a safe environment for anyone who really wants to learn the art of dance.
“I have a very busy schedule/ I’m not sure if I’ll like it. Can I just drop-in and take a class?”
Yes. Drop-ins are always welcome. The price for a drop-in is $15 per class. If you decide to take classes weekly, 10-class punch cards are available for $100. *Zoom prices: $10 for one class, $36 for four classes, and $80 for ten classes.
“What do I wear? Do I need anything special?”
Belly Dance Basics will not require finger cymbals. Some students find it beneficial to bring a yoga mat for warm-ups. Alyssa suggests wearing a form fitting shirt (not too baggy and not too tight) and athletic/yoga pants that are ankle length or shorter; skirts may be layered over pants. Ballet slippers are acceptable along with other dance footwear. Please, no socks and no belts with coins or beads as they can be a serious safety hazard.
“I don’t want to show my stomach, will that be a problem?”
Students are never forced to show their stomachs if they are not comfortable; however, it is common among students that after some time of taking classes, your confidence grows and you wish to show your stomach after all.
“I still have more questions/ I have a personal question or concern, who can I ask about it?”
